The 2018 Stone Eagle is the triumph of winemaking in Niagara. Continuing the tradition of using only the finest grapes for Stone Eagle, this blend was crafted with our best barrels from the 2018 vintage. It is the perfect fusion of the three red varieties grown on the Estate, exhibiting an exceptional balance of concentration, character and complexity. This is reflected in the density of the wine in the glass, as the deep ruby color of the wine invites further investigation. The nose is an extraordinary collection of aromatics, as the complexities of the blend are wonderfully on display. The wine is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the earthiness of the grape is evident. Tobacco, leather and licorice notes drive an elegant fusion with the fruitiness of the Merlot and the spiciness of the Cabernet Franc. The wine was made completely in new oak, so the character of the barrels is appropriately present on both the nose and palate. Consequently, Stone Eagle is an amazing collection and expression of the complexities of the vineyard, winemaking and the vintage.
Ripe fruit flavours abound, including the generous blue fruit notes that the Estate vineyard is famous for. This is complemented by a subtle savory character, including roasted red bell pepper and tomato, and punctuated by hints of dried herb and spice. Opulent texture, elegant structure and perfectly balancing alcohol make the tasting experience memorable. The finish is a lingering reflection of the harmony attained in this wine.
