The 2017 growing season was really a tale of two vintages. The spring and most of the summer were cool, cloudy and wet, creating serious concern about ripeness. However, the weather after Labor Day was perfectly sunny and warm to ripen the fruit. The result is a wine of exceptional flavour, concentration, and complexity. Made from 100% estate-grown fruit, this Merlot spent 30 months in French oak.
The 2017 Merlot is a very deep, inviting ruby in colour. The nose is intensely fruity, with a character of ripe plums, black cherries and prunes. Hints of cedar and chocolate are also evident. The palate is rich and concentrated, with black fruits, cocoa and a hint of clove. The tannins are nicely integrated, with perfectly balancing acidity and alcohol, creating the lush mouthfeel great Merlot is famous for.
