In 2015, it was unusually cold and dry through March, which resulted in anxiety about crop damage. Luckily, April through June were relatively normal and followed by a very dry July and excellent summer conditions. The fall brought beautiful warm weather with warmer than usual temperatures continuing through the Cabernet Sauvignon harvest in November. Only .64 tons per acre were harvested from our 20 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, as the vineyard was still recovering from the harsh winters of 2013 and 2014.
The very low yield and intense character are immediately evident in the colour of this wine. Deep and dark, the colour is indicative of the concentration of character and flavour. The nose is beautifully aromatic, with intense notes of ripe black fruits, blueberries, tobacco, leather, licorice and dark chocolate. The palate is complex and layered, as the flavours combine with evident tannins, balancing alcohol, and the rich texture of the wine, to create an exceptional mouthfeel. Balanced, smooth, and concentrated, this Cabernet Sauvignon lingers pleasantly to create a wonderful finish, as the complexities of the wine continue to please. This exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon is drinking beautifully now and will reward cellaring for at least 5 to 7 years.
