Our family shared a vision. One of creating a beautiful place to visit and to produce premium Niagara wines. Being sole proprietors, we were able to bring our vision to fruition as to how we want our guests to enjoy their experience here on our estate.
As an extension of our Marotta family, we have grasped at the opportunity to settle roots in the Niagara Region, particularly Niagara-on-the Lake, and to do our best to produce the finest wines from its beautiful and unique terroir.
Our future here is rooted within these vines and the passion to please the palate in both wine and food will stand the test of time. It is an extension of our family home, a place where people could savour life’s little moments and celebrate occasions. Two Sisters Vineyards is a unique destination; beautiful and timeless.
Our estate is located at the northern tip of the Niagara River sub-appellation bordered by the Niagara River to the East and Lake Ontario to the North.
The river's flow creates air convection currents which create moderate temperatures and draw cold air away from vineyards and into the river gorge. To the north, breezes from Lake Ontario provide a reliable and widely distributed moderating effect on temperatures throughout the seasons. These air currents ward off early spring and late fall frosts and most notably support an extended growing season giving us an advantage on our later-ripening varieties.
The commitment, which starts in the vineyard, is to produce ultra-premium reds which require superior viticultural practices. Two Sisters Vineyards emphasize the varieties the estate grows best with our terroir; Cabernet Franc with its earthy structure, Cabernet Sauvignon for its rich, muscular presence and Merlot for its perfumed, elegant harmony between red and dark fruit aroma and taste. During the season, all fruit is tended, bunch and leaf thinning by hand. Our objective is to let the grapes hang well into the autumn. All of our fruits are handled gently and with the utmost attention to every detail from vineyard through to bottle.
I favour taking a non-interventionist approach to our wines. It is almost cliché that all wines begin in the vineyard, but without hesitation this is my motto, my starting point. More than anything, I am dedicated to drawing on our unique soil composition, terroir and our great location in the Niagara River appellation. Meticulous vineyard practices including cropping for low yields has privileged me with exceptional fruit. Such quality allows me to fully express what our cool climate region can produce while respecting each variety’s character. Our ultra-modern production facility, innovative fermentation equipment and a first-class French oak barrel program absolutely spoil me as winemaker.
