The 2017 Senza was carefully crafted to make it a reflection of the vineyard and the growing conditions. The density and concentration are evident in the appearance of the wine. The nose is bursting with ripe blueberries and dark fruits, spices, and barrel notes. The wine has an enjoyable nuance of slightly overripe, perhaps bruised, fruit. The 17 months of barrel aging with only new French oak, and specifically the Garbellotto barrels, creates the savoury, particularly resinous quality in wine. Senza abounds with pronounced flavours of blueberries, blackberries, black cherries and currants, sweet herbs, dark chocolate, licorice, cedar, and tobacco. The taste compliments the pronounced texture of the tannins. The finish is long and complicated, accentuating the quality of the wine. Drinking beautifully now with aging potential into 2023.
